Stony Point Line
First, let’s restate some base rules (which shouldn’t be as relevant here, but oh well) -
- When I’m doing a whole line at once, I need to stay on the trains of that line where possible. So if I’m doing the Sunbury Line going from Flinders Street to North Melbourne, I have to take a Sunbury-bound train to get to North Melbourne.
- In order to mark a station as visited, I need to be there for at least a minute, so no getting off and immediately getting back on again.
Understood? Let’s go. Planned route today is Frankston-Stony Point-Leawarra-Crib Point-Baxter-Morradoo-Somerville-Bittern-Tyabb-Hastings. Shouldn’t be any deviations today, fingers crossed...
Frankston (6:49am)
Our first stop (and arguably the only thing vaguely metro about this line) is Frankston station! When I arrived here, there was just the one Sprinter all alone initially, before the second one came a few minutes later.
And, as a bonus (photographed at Frankston station):
Stony Point (7:42am)
Welcome to Stony Point, the terminus of the line! I suspect it would have been a bit nicer had I shown up later in the day, but it’s still nice to be here in the morning. Take a look:
Leawarra (8:32am)
Welcome to Leawarra, the other Stony Point line station in Frankston, which services Monash University Peninsula! An observation: this station contains very sparse timetable info (which I suspect will become a theme) — no passenger info display system, no button connecting you to live info, just a very faded timetable. Not very helpful for passengers.
Crib Point (9:20am)
So, I don’t know how I’ve not mentioned this before, but I have visited the Stony Point line recently, and specifically this station. I bring it up now because it appears to be newly absent of contact tracing QR codes - would suspect vandals and/or anti-vaxxers. But, anyway, here’s the station (with a thankfully not-faded timetable):
Baxter (10:14am)
This is the most bare-bones station I’ve seen so far - only facilities here are some benches and a Myki reader, not even a top-up machine as has been present elsewhere, let alone a timetable. Take a look:
Morradoo (11:08am)
Here at one of Melbourne’s three stations located very close to cemeteries (the other two being Fawkner and Cheltenham)! Like Baxter, not much here, though glad to see a non-faded timetable at least.
Somerville (11:46am)
Here now at Somerville! This station not only has a Myki machine and a timetable, but also a shuttered-off window where I presume staff would go if this station was staffed.
Bittern (1:25pm)
Here I am now at Bittern station! There’s a Myki machine, Myki reader and timetables here. On Sundays, a local market also occurs in the station car park!
Tyabb (2:06pm)
Nearly done today with Tyabb station, which is right opposite an antiques place. No QR code, again (the third time, since there also wasn’t one at Morradoo), but anyway, here’s some photos!
Hastings (2:59pm)
The final station today is Hastings, which I’ve actually visited before! If I recall correctly, this is the most used station on the line. Here’s some photos!
And with that, I have now visited every station on the Stony Point line! Had a lovely day, and thank you, dear reader, for following along with me! See you next time :)
